birdsTwitter has just released a new guide for business.  Called “Twitter 101, a Special Guide” Twitter will give you the lo-down on how to use this social media tool, explain it’s lingo and give you a brief history.

For example, did you know that the reason you’re limited to 140 characters when you tweet is because of the limits you have on text messaging from your cell phone?  Basic cell phones limit your texting to 160 characters – Twitter set their Tweets at 140 characters so that your user name could be included.  It’s a formula that works for them, so despite the progresses in technology, they’re going to stick with it.

Here are a couple of the business success stories cited by Twitter:

  • Twitter users follow Dell Outlet for exclusive deals on electronics—and have driven more than $3M in sales through Twitter
  • Ice cream eaters in New York give local chain Tasti-D-Lite marketing feedback via Twitter—and sometimes get surprise dessert deliveries
  • Coffee drinkers in Houston choose CoffeeGroundz for the personal relationships they’ve built on Twitter—and the shop’s Twitter-based ordering

If you are interested in finding out more about how to use Twitter for your business, they have put together a handy guide in PDF format that you can download right here.  Do you have a Twitter success story to share?  Leave it here on this post!
